We transform lives through music
The Oklahoma Opry
The Oklahoma Opry grew from a love of music and family, and has become an important part of Oklahoma’s musical culture and history. Starting as a backyard gathering of family and friends who loved to play country music, the Opry was formed and grew under the guidance of Granville “Grant” Leftwich (1929 – 2006). Starting at the OKC National Guard Armory as a family-oriented country show, the Oklahoma Opry was officially launched in 1977 in the renovated Knob Hill theater located in the Capitol Hill district of Oklahoma City. Later, moving into the historic Stockyards district in 2004, the Opry found its new home in the Rodeo Theater, where it thrived from 2004-2020 as the Rodeo Opry. Reclaiming its original name in 2021, the Oklahoma Opry relocated to Bricktown, where they are in the process of renovating their new home on the canal. Until renovations are complete, shows and music classes are being temporarily held in ACM@UCO (25 South Oklahoma Avenue, OKC 73104).
Weekly Saturday night Opry shows introduce talented new performers who share the stage with special guests, Oklahoma City icons, and the professional Opry house band in a family-friendly, live music show proclaimed Oklahoma’s Official Country Music Show.
Granville Community Music School
Named after Opry founder, Granville “Grant” Leftwich, Granville Community Music School provides quality music instruction to children from low-income families for just 50 cents per lesson. Granville is modeled after Nashville’s long running W.O Smith Community Music School and open to children ages 9 - 18. In addition to private music lessons, Granville has also provided group music classes for Positive Tomorrows, an OKC school for homeless children, Mission Academy High School for students recovering from substance addiction or abuse and other underserved OKC public schools.
Strings of Valor
Since 2017, the Oklahoma Opry has provided free guitar lessons to over 200 veterans and now continues to serve Oklahoma veterans under the new name, Strings of Valor. After starting a pilot program in 2017 and later operating Oklahoma’s first chapter of the national Guitars for Vets program from 2018-2025, the Oklahoma Opry is continuing its longstanding partnership with the OKCVA Recreational Therapy Department to transform lives through music by providing free guitar lessons to veterans at two locations. Each Veteran who completes the 11-week course and graduates the program receives a brand new acoustic guitar, accessory pack, and is welcome to join almuni jam sessions and performance opportunities.
Oklahoma Country Music
Hall of Fame & Museum
Coming Soon!
The Oklahoma Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum will reopen with the purpose to collect, preserve, and interpret the history and traditions of country music in Oklahoma and showcase how Oklahoma singers, songwriters, and musicians impact the genre. The original Oklahoma Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum opened in 1993 by members of the Del City Lions Club under the direction of the late country music performer & Del City Music owner, Bob Woods. As Oklahoma’s Official Country Music Show, the Oklahoma Opry is honored to have been given the responsibility and trust to preserve and showcase country music and the Oklahomans who make it great.
We believe in full transparency.
